Today we are featuring music from the “Great American Songbook” — with music by writers including Gershwin, Arlen, Berlin, Kern, Carmichael, Porter and many more, in a programme inspired by William Zinsser’s book on the music of the mid-20th Century, Easy To Remember.
Le Monde Perdu — Luane’s World
Wednesday, March 22nd, and today our Featured Music is Smooth Jazz — primarily instrumental pieces from the jazzier end of the New Age spectrum.

The estate contains seven regions. Le Monde Perdu is the main region and you can explore both the romantic ground level seasonal environment, or the magical world in the sky.Continue reading
Music of Ireland
Yesterday was March 17, St Patrick’s Day, and in recognition of that, today we have a programme of primarily (but not exclusively) traditional music for you from the Emerald Isle.
You can also catch the latest edition of Where Have You Been? — our regular feature on things to do and places to see around the Second Life Grid. Tune in at 12 noon and 4pm Pacific Time — this week, that’s 19:00 and 23:00 UTC. And this time we visit Le Monde Perdu — Luane’s World. For details, see the article here. You can also catch Engines of Our Ingenuity, from the University of Houston, every four hours from 4am Pacific.

Woodwinds
Today’s programme features members of the woodwind family — oboe, clarinet, flute, bassoon, recorder and more, including the gamut of Early Music woodwinds like the shawn (the predecessor of the oboe), curtal (a proto-bassoon) and crumhorn.
Of course, the majority of orchestral music includes a woodwind section, so the criterion for inclusion in today’s show was that a member of the woodwind family is the lead instrument — a “wind band” is not sufficient (and they’re generally usually brass-heavy anyway), but a concerto for bassoon (yes there is at least one) counts.Continue reading

Music from the Grand Hotel
“And now we take you to the Palm Court of the Grand Hotel…” as the announcer used to say, introducing a programme of fine light classical and dance music from the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, on Britain’s South Coast.
Today we take you back to the dance-halls of the early to middle 20th Century, from around the mid-20s to the 50s, characterised by the BBC radio series, Grand Hotel. We’ll also be hearing some classic big-band recordings and much more.
Join us for another episode in our Second Life travelogue series, “Where Have You Been?”. “WYB” airs every Wednesday and Saturday at 12 noon and 4pm Pacific / SLT, and each episode is broadcast over a couple of weeks. And don’t miss “Engines of Our Ingenuity” from the University of Houston, every four hours from 4am Pacific.
Where Have You Been? — A New Season
We’re pleased to announce the start of the third series of our original programme, “Where Have You Been?”, where we discuss places to visit and things to do around the Second Life grid — and we try to ensure they’re usually things and places that the major commentators miss.
“WYB” airs every Wednesday and Saturday at 12 noon and 4pm Pacific / SLT, and each episode is broadcast over a couple of weeks. And don’t miss “Engines of Our Ingenuity” from the University of Houston, every four hours from 4am Pacific.
Our destinations generally fall into one of three categories: Art, Exploration and Events. In the first episode of the new season, it’s the first of those, as we take a trip over to GBTH, aka “Grab By The Horns” — a virtual visual arts incubator in Second Life, founded in October 2017 by Marina Münter. English & Scottish Country Dance
Our programme today, 25th February, focuses, rather broadly, on English Country Dance – and in particular on the work of John Playford (1623–1686/7) — and its cousin, Scottish Country Dance, along with a range of other traditional dance music such as Morris dancing.
In addition, tune in at noon or 4pm Pacific/SLT as “Where Have You Been?” re-visits the historic Second Life environment of Svarga. To learn more about Svarga, check out this article from last year. Plus “Engines of Our Ingenuity” every four hours from 4am SLT/Pacific.
The Magic of The Musical: The Tony Awards
Our new season of The Magic of The Musical with Caledonia Skytower begins in April, but in the run-up to that time, we’re repeating some of last season’s programmes, so today, Saturday, February 18th at 2pm slt/pacific you can hear our show on the Tony Awards, originally broadcast live from SL19B last year.
The Magic of The Musical explores the blending of music and drama — featuring the songs, history, and lore that make up the musical theater canon. Learn more about some of your favorite shows and composers as we cue the orchestra, and the overture begins.
In this, Episode 03: “Countdown to The Tony Awards” your host Caledonia Skytower talks to guest Morrie Enders, the Executive Director of Lincoln Community Playhouse in Nebraska. Together they explore some “what ifs” and “might have been“s from various Best Musical races from the American Theater Wing’s Tony Awards past.
In keeping with the show, “On Broadway!” is our Featured Music theme through the day. And don’t miss the episode of Where Have You Been? where we visit Svarga, and Engines of Our Ingenuity every four hours from 4am Pacific.
